Jaguar Land Rover India has finally launched the latest generation Defender in the domestic market and it is the first time the iconic off-roading SUV debuts in India since JLR commenced its local operations back in 2009. The Defender’s reservations are already taken online for the convenience of the customers.
In India, Land Rover has an expansive range of luxury SUVs including Evoque, Discovery Sport, Velar, Discovery, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover sold through 27 authorised dealerships. The Defender is claimed to be the stiffest and most rigid body ever produced by the company through its history course of the aluminium intensive D7x architecture.
Can be had in either five, six or seven seat options, the Land Rover Defender is priced at Rs. 73.98 lakh and it goes all the way up to Rs. 90.46 lakh (ex-showroom). Retailed in Base, S, SE, HSE and First Edition trims, the Land Rover Defender has a bootspace of 1,075 litres behind the second-row and up to 2,380 litres when the second row is folded down. It has a ground clearance of 291 mm and boasts of several technological advancements including industry-first off-road geometry.

The all-new Land Rover Defender has an approach angle of 38 degrees, departure angle of 40 degrees and break-over of 28 degrees with maximum wading depth of 900 mm. It is said to have the infotainment system with fastest processing speed and the Wade programme comes equipped with the Terrain Response 2 system.
It also comes with ClearSight Ground View technology, a permanent AWD configuration deriving power from a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and is good enough to generate a maximum power output of 296 horsepower and 400 Nm. The powertrain is linked with an eight-speed automatic transmission with twin transfer case setup.
A 3.0-litre hybrid engine could arrive here at a later date. Brought into the country via CBU route, the First Edition of the Land Rover Defender will be available only for a limited period of time. It features a Pivi Pro touschreen infotainment system capable of OTR updates, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a large HUD. head-up display (HUD).
