Hyundai Alcazar will more likely launch next year in India and is expected to use the same engine lineup as the five-seater Creta
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has recently trademarked the ‘Alcazar’ name in India and it sparks the speculations that it could be for the seven-seater SUV based on Creta. Filed on April 12, 2020, it is proposed to be used for automobiles under sport utility vehicle category. The test mules of the three-row Creta were caught on camera in South Korea and they indicated the presence of quite a few updates.
The second-generation Hyundai Creta went on sale earlier this year in India and its design is based on the latest ix25 sold in China. The seven-seater version won’t have any major differences in terms of styling but subtle enough to stand apart from the standard model like redesigned grille and bumper.
The changes can be seen on the sides though, as it will have longer rear overhang. This is to accommodate the third row of seats and the larger quarter glass will help in maximizing the space for the occupants in the final row. With the bootspace likely to be reduced, expect changes to the design of the tailgate and tail lamps with possible C-shaped brake light signature to increase the trunk volume.
The dual exhaust outlets will likely be the same as the five-seater Creta. The mid-size SUVs like Tata Harrier and MG Hector are giving rise to Tata Gravitas and MG Hector Plus respectively to accommodate space for two more passengers. This will help in expanding their range and position the SUVs at a more premium price tag.
The second largest carmaker in the country will also follow the same route with the seven-seater Creta likely to be christened the ‘Alcazar’. The Hyundai Alcazar will likely be powered by the identical engine lineup as the five-seater Creta. The 1.5-litre petrol, 1.5-litre diesel and 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol motors could be employed with manual and automatic transmission options.
The launch of the seven-seater Creta could happen sometime next year and India will be one of the first countries to receive the model.
